Design Dispatch

Design Dispatch is an exhibition that explores the multifaceted realm of what we commonly refer to as “T-shirt culture.” Today the T-shirt becomes a way of advocating, condemning, confronting and objecting. A simple clothing acts as a facade for vocalizing the internal, and actively and publicly displays one’s values. Curated by Mobius Design and exhibited at Manarat Alsaadiyat in Abu Dhabi, this exhibition showcases my work alongside 19 other regional designers. We were asked to respond to this context by creating a t-shirt artwork printed on a giant T-shirt, measuring 2×2 meters. My graphic explores the visuals and icons used by Syrian mosaic artists throughout history. The T-shirt is a tribute to this ancient craft, showcasing some of the motifs, patterns and illustrations found in mosaics. The visual, presented in the form of an inforgraph, provides an analysis of the rich history and significance of Syrian mosaics, tracing their evolution over time. Given the huge scale of the tshirts, I chose an infograph to challenge the idea of the tshirt as a walking form of communication and graphic design.
